First of all: Thank you very much for your donations. You have been a great help to me. But now to the real reason why I’m writing:
Pop the corks! 🎉 I am now consul!
I knew I was destined for something great. Pompey threatened the Senate with a drawn sword, saying he would kill anyone who didn’t vote for me. A bit exaggerated, I think—I’m the greatest anyway. But now you see, my supporters, once again how much power I have. Because of that, I can do a lot of good. Without me, Rome would be doomed!
For your information: My enemies claim that I committed several constitutional violations during my consulship. That is, of course, simply not true.
Yes, okay… I’m only 40, but you’re supposed to be 43 to hold the office of consul. But seriously: who came up with such a stupid rule? Surely my predecessors, who only wanted to secure their own power. Those miserable dictators! Don’t let them get away with it!
And also, it’s not really true that I ignored my colleague Bibulus. You can tell from his name (bibere = to drink) that you can’t really trust him with any responsibilities.
You see, supporting me was the right decision. With any other man, our beautiful empire would go downhill. I will make up for what my predecessors messed up!
Now I’m also facing accusations and such, but Crassus is taking care of that. Just because the people support me, I am now being politically persecuted. But I won’t back down! You can count on me!
Even though it’s said:
I love treason but hate the traitors.
Gaius Julius Caesar
I will represent your interests if you support me!
